America needs to step up its game when it comes to taking care of the family. We are a world power and a first-world country, yet there are so many things about being a parent in the US which are ridiculously lacking. While I won’t get into the massive issues which need attention, I have thought of five things that all businesses should do to help parents and families. These are fairly easy to implement and can be done by most stores and restaurants. Let’s all work to make the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave a sanctuary for families, too. Continue reading

The newborn and infant phases can be terrifying for new parents. But don’t worry: I’m here to help.
As a new parent, it seemed that my husband and I had an endless list of questions. Caring for a helpless baby is no small feat. We were exhausted, paranoid, and isolated.
Then, Real Simple Mama was born.
In this section, I provide tons of content for anyone who is caring for a newborn and infant: whether that be parents, grandparents, daycares, nannies, babysitters, the list goes on. I’ll tell you about my years of experience plus all of the reading and research I’ve done. I’m constantly learning! – and I want to help you too.
Look for topics on newborn health and safety, product reviews, and suggestions for how to make the best decision for your child. I also encourage you to look into “attachment parenting”, which is the concept of trying to meet your baby’s every need. This can include one or many of the following: breastfeeding, babywearing, and cosleeping.
If I can ever do anything to help, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
And I have a whole set of books for the parents of any newborn and infant called Real Simple Motherhood: The Fourth Trimester. They are packed full of quality content too!
If you have a baby, it’s easy to think of them as a tiny adult: after all, they’re a human being, and they’ll be a grownup eventually. However, a young baby sees the world very differently from their parents. And now there’s an app for that.
I was approached by Appetite for Education about reviewing their new app called Baby World. When Magdalena explained the concept of the app to me, I was intrigued: essentially Baby World shows parents and caregivers the world through a newborn’s eyes. The app emphasizes the baby’s limited vision and limited color scope, and allows you to use visually appropriate flash cards with your baby. There’s even an interactive camera!
Now that I’ve gotten a sneak peek at all that Baby World has to offer, I’ve gotta tell you: you need this app if you have a baby. Continue reading
Us mamas have doubt coming at us from all sides: everyone from our well-meaning mother in law to the old lady at the grocery store fuel that little voice in our heads which constantly says “You’re screwing up your kid.” But I’m here to give you a breath of fresh air, and to remind you that a mama’s instinct is pretty damn amazing. Babies are so fantastic: they’re adorable, resilient, and don’t require much. But that leaves loved ones in a bit of a predicament: what exactly do you get for someone who has a baby? You could always go the Target gift card route, but if you’re old-school like me you like for the parents to have something to really “open.” Plus it’s so much more fun to shop for a baby! Here are my suggestions for the best creative gifts for babies: they’re original, they’re useful, and I can promise you that they will be appreciated! Continue reading
When we found out we were expecting a second child, I was ecstatic! But I also wanted a way to bond with my son, my one and only, before his little sister arrived. I’d read that it would help the oldest child adapt to the idea of having a sibling if they “gifted” something to the baby, and it sounded like a beautiful thing to do. We found the perfect thing: the sweetest sibling gift, made with love. Continue reading
What should you really get for a newborn? While stores and media try to convince us that there are hundreds of things you just gotta have, the truth is that a baby’s needs are quite simple, and easily met.
Here’s an AP mom’s perspective on the only items you truly should have, either for your own baby or as a gift for new parents. Continue reading
You shouldn’t ask me “is your daughter a good baby?”
I don’t have a “good baby.” She doesn’t sleep through the night, she sometimes bites while nursing, and she puts her feet in my face when she’s in my bed.
And you know what? I don’t care. Continue reading
Being aware of your baby’s milestones and leaps will save you a lot of worry and stress, as you are able to anticipate and meet their needs. Remember that a baby grows more (physically and neurologically) in their first year, than any other year of their life!
I didn’t even know what a milestone was with my first kid until he was close to a year old; no one told me about it, and it would have helped me so much with my first baby! And leaps? Forget about it! (Oh if I only knew then what I know now, right?).
This text is designed to help parents and caregivers navigate the rough waters of baby development. Awareness of leaps and milestones allows parents to guide their infant through all of the changes, regressions, and new skills which each leap presents. Continue reading
Seven months of work. Countless hours of writing, research, editing, formatting, and meditating. Sleepless nights. Stress and changes plans and stomping over my comfort zone.
It’s here. It’s finally here!
I am so proud to announce that my first major book, Real Simple Motherhood: The Fourth Trimester, is now available on Amazon KDP. Continue reading
I realized the other day that I’ve used a baby monitor daily for three and a half years! And I don’t see myself stopping any time soon. Read on to learn how essential I find these little gadgets, even as a minimalistic AP mom, and why I can’t live without baby monitors. Continue reading
