The newborn and infant phases can be terrifying for new parents. But don’t worry: I’m here to help.
As a new parent, it seemed that my husband and I had an endless list of questions. Caring for a helpless baby is no small feat. We were exhausted, paranoid, and isolated.
Then, Real Simple Mama was born.
In this section, I provide tons of content for anyone who is caring for a newborn and infant: whether that be parents, grandparents, daycares, nannies, babysitters, the list goes on. I’ll tell you about my years of experience plus all of the reading and research I’ve done. I’m constantly learning! – and I want to help you too.
Look for topics on newborn health and safety, product reviews, and suggestions for how to make the best decision for your child. I also encourage you to look into “attachment parenting”, which is the concept of trying to meet your baby’s every need. This can include one or many of the following: breastfeeding, babywearing, and cosleeping.
If I can ever do anything to help, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
And I have a whole set of books for the parents of any newborn and infant called Real Simple Motherhood: The Fourth Trimester. They are packed full of quality content too!
Newborns do the darndest things! My husband and I have learned so much in these first four weeks of our son’s life, and continue to be surprised that a lot of it is not covered in our infant care class. Take our advice so that you know what kinds of newborn behavior is normal, and which you should worry about. Continue reading

Before I was a mother, I had never changed a diaper. Seriously. And luckily, my infant care class taught me how to change diapers on a plastic baby doll. But when you have a squirming, screaming baby at 2am, threatening to shower you with everything they’ve got left, classes and baby dolls aren’t a whole lot of help. Welcome to trial and error… at its finest. (Or messiest, whatever). Here are my recommendations for products and processes to keep you and Baby clean and happy when using disposable diapers. Look at the end of the article for a bonus video about newborn diaper changing!

Learning that you’re going to be a new dad can be very stressful. I know because I was. I had no idea what I was going to do once our child came into the world, so I did what I naturally do when I want to learn about something. I went online and began researching. Here’s a little tip: every new dad needs these instructions, called The Baby Owner’s Manual Continue reading
