Articles here have an emphasis on the care and lifestyle during pregnancy.
Congratulations! Growing a baby is one of the most confusing and terrifyingly beautiful things you could ever do. You experience the strongest love a person can ever feel, without ever having seeing your child’s face. But pregnancy is a difficult road to travel, and even surrounded by loved ones it can feel as if you’re walking it alone.
You have so many decisions to make during pregnancy, and you may not know where to start. With Real Simple Mama, I wanted to create a haven for families expecting a baby, in the hopes that they could find everything they need. I aim to answer all types of questions, so that new and expectant parents can find peace of mind (and peace of heart).
Here you can find articles on everything from how to aid morning sickness, to how to prepare for a new baby, to planning an educated birth. I also have many reviews, but don’t worry: I only tell you about products I believe in. No sellouts here. My emphasis is on education and support – no judgment, no matter what decisions you choose.
So put your feet up, relax, and read on Mama. I’m here to help.
Ain’t it always the way life goes: you finally think that you have everything figured out, and you get a good routine going with your first child… and then Life throws a curveball at your face. That’s what happened to us when we were expecting our second child. My husband and I were so ecstatic to see that positive pregnancy test! But we were shoved out of our comfort zone all over again. In many ways, it felt like being a new parent for the second time.
Now that my hindsight is 20/20, I’d like to tell you about how our lives changed the second time we became parents. Continue reading
We have all seen the usual lists about “what to do before Baby arrives.” There’s the stock list of things like cleaning the house and assembling the crib; I’m sure you’ve read dozens of those on Pinterest if you’re expecting. And I made my own list after my first baby. But from a mom of two, let me give you the list of unique, obscure, overlooked and totally recommended things you should do before Baby arrives! Imagine you’ve been praying for the souls of your future children since you were 14. You marry your high school sweetheart and you know you want a house full of kids.
And then you’re told you may never be a mother.
That’s what happened to me. And don’t worry, my story has a happy ending. But I had a long road to walk, often alone, carrying the burdens of emotional and physical pain. My hope is that this article will shine some light into life with endometriosis and infertility, and remind you that when it comes to getting pregnant… Well, it ain’t over till it’s over, sister. There are hundreds of opinions on what you should put on your registry. But WHERE should you register? Do you try and find a one-stop-shop that has everything you want? Do you register at multiple places, and hope that no one gets confused?
How about you do it all – from your phone?
I started to get a lot of sciatic (lower back) pain in the second trimester of my first pregnancy. After talking with my chiropractor and obstetrician, I decided to try a maternity belt. Continue reading
We are getting closer and closer to the big day! We’ve spent a lot of time speaking to medical professionals, attending classes, and doing lots of our own research – all with the intention of making the best birth plan possible for our son. This birth plan is written with a hospital birth in mind, and my emphasis was on a natural/drug-free birth. I’ll write a birth center-specific plan soon.
I wrote this adorably innocent article in 2013. I’ve revised it now that I’ve birthed two kiddos 🙂 Free PDF download included!
This book was my favorite reference text during my first pregnancy. It’s called Your Pregnancy Week By Week by Glade B. Curtis, MD, MPH and Judith Schuler, MS. Here’s a quick, straight forward review for current and future families. Continue reading
As you get closer to your due date, your mind is probably going 100mph with the list of things to take to the hospital. Ideally, you want this bag ready to go in your car or by the door in case you have an “omg my water broke!” moment, and find yourself and your significant other rushing to Labor and Delivery.
Compiled from friends, websites, apps and hospital lists, here’s what I plan to take with me. And now I’ll share my ultimate hospital packing list with you! Scroll to the end of the article for the free downloadable PDF! Continue reading
You may have heard about some parents-to-be playing music for their unborn baby, and might even have thought about trying it yourself. Sarah and I have done some research and talked to some parents who’ve tried this. There seem to be mixed feelings on this topic… Music for baby while they’re still in the womb. Read all about what we’ve learned about music for unborn babies and what we recommend as new parents.
