In January 2021, RSM’s oldest child, her son Kiddo, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It was a devastating diagnosis for the little family. RSM dove right in to learn as much as possible and to deal with her own emotions in a healthy way, while also staying calm and positive for her son.
T1D is an extremely time-consuming, stressful disease. You as the parent feel like you are doing a never-ending science experiment, except the test subject is your own child. You feel guilt that your kid has this damn condition in the first place, and that you didn’t see it sooner. You read and listen and call and ask questions, but you still feel like you have no clue what you’re doing. And all you want is for your child to be happy and healthy, to live a long quality life where diabetes doesn’t get to run the show.
If you’ve found this content, RSM is here to help. Find her articles and videos where she talks about everything from the initial diagnosis and hospital stay, to tips and tricks and gear. And don’t forget about the emotional journey, too. RSM’s here for all of it, and you’re not alone.
