The year 2020 has been like a rolling, burning dumpster fire. I’m home all the time with my babies, and while I’m grateful to be protecting my family, the constant headlines and reports have me feeling perpetual dread. Luckily, I have had time to myself to read and I wanted to share some suggestions for books to get you through 2020. Some are educational, some are uplifting, some just make you think. But I’m a better person for it, and I can’t wait to hear your suggestions too!

You’re a stay at home parent, and your child is finally down for a nap. Now comes the panicky excitement like a game show you didn’t know you were on: What do you do with this alone time? Logic says to take a nap or eat something, but part of you wants to take a hot shower or eat a half gallon of ice cream. And if you’re like me, you spend the whole nap standing in the kitchen with an indecisive look on your face. Then, just like that, your kid wakes up. Damn! So quick, check out my list of what to do when your kid naps.
Continue readingWe all want to save the planet, right? I hope that everyone cares enough about the human race to look at their own lives and say “What can I do to save the earth?” But it can seem depressing and daunting, especially if you’re on a budget. I am having a fantastic experience with Weight Watchers. I can honestly say that it’s a plan I find affordable, effective, and sustainable. But I want to write about the misconceptions of WW because it’s not perfect. This is about the hard truths, the worst things, and what sucks about Weight Watchers. Continue reading
I am loving Weight Watchers! As a busy mom who’s on a budget (money wise and time wise), it’s really the only weight loss plan that makes any kind of realistic sense. Though don’t let me call it a diet – it’s a lifestyle! The beauty of WW is that it’s sustainable, even if you’re cooking for little kids and a healthy husband. But if I’m going to make this plan work for life, I gotta have some go-to snacks that satisfy me, and are enjoyable too. Viola! Here is the list of my favorite Weight Watchers snacks: Smart Points-friendly, easy to make, and friggin’ good. Each suggestion includes serving size and Smart Points value, and as always I have tons of photos! Continue reading
By now, I’m sure you’ve seen the stunning images which have gone viral: a mother breastfeeding her child. This new trend for the breastfeeding selfie, aka “brelfie“, is not only helping to normalize breastfeeding, but it’s a gorgeous keepsake for the mom. Breastfeeding can be so difficult, painful, and time consuming, that these photos are extra special! You could save these to your phone, upload to social media, or even have them printed!
The guides I’ve seen for making a brelfie weren’t easy to follow (and the process is quite simple, as well as free), so I’m jumping on the bandwagon to tell you how to make one! Essentially you’re editing a brelfie photo on your phone with a free app, adding the tree with roots and then some badass filters.
This process can take less than 5 minutes, but I warn you: it’s addicting!
Written by Morgan, the mama behind Mom Uprising – someone way more fashionable and good looking than I will ever be. Trust me, you want to read about simple beauty for real moms in the real world.
If you’re like me, there are weeks where you go days without a shower. Your yoga pants have pea puree, or maybe poop, all over them. Your messy bun is just messy without any sense of style. We all have those days, those weeks, and those months.
Honestly, the first month or so after giving birth, I wasn’t concerned with this at all. I was a brand new mom, and those postpartum hormones didn’t necessarily work well for my mood, but my skin was absolutely glowing. Fast forward a few months and add going back to work with breastfeeding cravings that had me scarfing down six donuts in one sitting, and my appearance started to take a nosedive, as did my confidence.
After some trial and error, I think I’ve settled on a few key things that I do to keep myself not just looking better, but feeling better about the way I look. Now, I’m going to share those things with you! Continue reading
