My oldest child, my son and my firstborn, is about to turn seven years old. I say this every year, but I can’t believe it! Time is flying and my heart is about to burst with pride and emotion. Every year I write a little love letter to my children on their birthdays, as I reflect on their birth and how our lives have changed, the person they are and the person they will become. Here is Happy Birthday to My Son as he turns seven. Enjoy.

If you have chickens, you need a chicken journal. I’m a firm believer that you should get a central place to keep all of your flock-related data, expenses, and observations. So I’m here to advocate for chicken journals everywhere, and how to set one up! Hey I’ll even include a free PDF Table of Contents and a video demo!
Continue readingI write a letter to each child on each birthday and include it in their journal. This fall, I’m writing to my daughter – my youngest child – who is turning four years old. Please enjoy this letter to my daughter on her fourth birthday, and feel free to use it as a template as you write to your own kids.
Continue readingMy oldest child turns six this month! I always write a note to go in his journal, and this year is no exception. I hope you enjoy this letter to my son on his sixth birthday, called “Never Stop Growing”, and feel free to use it as a template with your own child!
Continue readingI’m one of those people you call a “turtle” because I lose weight incredibly slowly. My journey is almost two and a half years long at this point, and while I’m down over 65 pounds, I’m not done yet! Oh yeah, I’m also a stay-at-home mom with two young children. With such a long-term goal, and so much mental and emotional (and physical) work that goes into reaching it, we can get frustrated. Here are some mental strategies that help with weight loss – and trust me, I’ve been there!
Continue readingHappy fifth birthday to my son! He is such a special human being, a calm considerate gift from God. This year is also significant because my baby, my oldest child, my firstborn, is going to kindergarten in the fall. It’s a strange phase that we’re in, because in some ways my son is so obviously a big boy. But in other ways, he reminds me that he is still so little. And as his mother, I’m going through all of these “firsts” for the first time, too. I hope that you enjoy a letter to my son on his fifth birthday. Continue reading
Last night, as my baby slept in my arms, I wrote letters to her and to my 2.5 year old son. I’ve kept a journal for my boy since before I was even pregnant, writing wishes and thoughts on paper. I have one for my little daughter too, telling her of my pregnancy journey and all the wonderful things she does. I’m begging you to do something similar for your children. Write to your kids, or paint, or record your voice. Something. It is so worth it. Continue reading
