The Best Gifts for a Chicken Lover: Flock Edition

These gift ideas are more for the chickens than the person, but you know that a true chicken lover will find joy in watching their happy flock!

A treat ball is a hilarious way to bond with your chickens. These act similarly to dog treat dispensers, in that you fill the ball with treats, close it up with the enclosed elastic string, and let your chickens peck out the reward! I will say that this is an easy-to-gift option as it’s cheap and small (stocking stuffer idea?), but I’ve also had one stolen by squirrels!

Another treaty option is a flock block. This is placed somewhere the chickens have access to it all the time (but out of the elements so it doesn’t get moldy and gross). This flock block can potentially last for over two weeks, making it a great gift for a chicken lover, but it’s quite heavy and a bit pricier, so maybe not something you’d want to have shipped.

Did you know? Chickens don’t have teeth! They swallow food and it goes down to their crop, sort of like a balloon which helps pre-digest food. Then it goes into their gizzard, which is a bird equivalent of a stomach.

If your chicken lover has a green thumb, you might also consider some plants. Chickens love to forage, and many plants are not only delicious but actually helpful. Some ideas for chicken-friendly plants are:

  • Mums
  • Marigolds
  • Peppermint
  • Lavender
  • Rosemary
  • Parsley
  • Grasses

Lastly, you could look into dried mealworms or black soldier fly larvae. This is a healthy, high protein snack which is great for all chickens. I personally prefer to give my chickens black soldier fly larvae like Flygrubs because I like the texture better and they have a higher percent of calcium, which helps egg shells. (And don’t worry – while it may look like these little guys are expensive, a little goes a long way and will last for a long time.)

The Best Gifts for a Chicken Lover

Every chicken lover needs these clogs! They’re actually super practical as you can be mucking out the chicken coop without getting your feet dirty, or muddying your socks. Check out these adorable rainboots, too.

But of course if you wanted, you could get these hysterical chicken socks too. Not gonna lie, I really want these!

An egg apron is a beautiful and useful gift for the chicken lover in your life. It allows you to collect all the eggs you need to, keeping them safe in their own individual pocket, and your hands free! I only have five chickens but I could still see myself using this, just for the heck of it.

And once you bring the eggs indoors, what better way to display them with pride than with an egg carousel? This is a lovely way to store your eggs on the kitchen counter, keep them in order, and not take up a ton of room with a tacky-looking egg carton. Every time I have people in my kitchen, they ask about this.

Did you know? Fresh chicken eggs have good bacteria on them which means they don’t have to be refrigerated. On the counter they’re good for around two weeks; but once you wash them, they have to be kept cold.

While we’re in the kitchen, you could look into this cute chicken salt and pepper shaker set, or chicken signage like this one for indoor decor.

If your chicken lover sells their chicken eggs, consider a custom-made stamp from Etsy which can be used to stamp the eggs with your friend’s logo or name. I love this idea!

And if the person you have in mind can take a risqué joke, the cookbook called Fifty Shades of Chicken is hilarious and useful. (The photos are all appropriate, but the text… very much not. It does actually have delicious recipes, though!)

Another kitchen gadget which I find really helpful is a small egg cooker. This baby can do poached, soft or hard boiled, and all kinds of other things! I appreciate that it’s quick to use, easy to clean, and doesn’t take up a lot of space. To me this is one of the best gifts for a chicken lover you know!

Hopefully now you have some egg-citing ideas for the best gifts for a chicken lover! And hey, if that person is you, that works too! What ideas would you add to my list?
